Internal Job Queue

POSTED 26th June 09, by Mike Griffiths.

Recently, I created a system for the office that allows us to manage our work more easily. The current system in place is called Keeno, and works quite well. Keeno is an online system that allows us to mark time against jobs, which in turn are linked to clients; this makes billing and logging of tasks really easy. The only problem with Keeno is keeping track of new jobs and what each person in the office is currently working on.

The new system is an extension of Keeno. We now have an LCD screen up on the office wall that displays a live feed of each of our jobs. It allows us all to quickly see what we need to work on and what deadlines are looming. Because it is tied into Keeno it is no more work for us to add or remove jobs.

The system has been made so that it is extensible, meaning we can expand it easily if needed, by adding new monitors in this room or in the next room, add new people to the jobs list or add completely new features.

Keeno has been made using a mixture of PHP, MySQL, valid XHTML, CSS2.0, JavaScript and jQuery. The new monitoring system uses the same technologies and runs on its own dedicated Linux box, which means it will almost never need to be shut down or restarted.
