The High Street is Dying but Online is Booming!

A brief walk up the high street can be a gloomy experience at the moment. High street brands missing - names you have grown up with are no longer around, shops are empty and stores are trying anything to increase sales. Yet research, last month, shows that online spend is on the increase and online businesses are feeling ever more confident about the future - a stark contrast to traditional commerce!

In August alone, UK consumers spent £3.8 billion online, this is a 16% increase on last year and comes at a time when the economy is suffering. Tina Spooner, IMRG Director of Information, stated, "The continued annual growth in the online retail market is evidence that this medium is withstanding the challenges of the economic downturn and the retailers that continue to expand and improve their online presence will no doubt reap the benefits during the festive trading period,"

With nine million adults shopping online at least once a week, it seems that the web is the place to be pushing your business at the moment. The current downturn promotes accountability and measurability in marketing and online marketing is extremely strong in these sectors.
